NRA National Youth

Ambassador 2013

In order to promote better communication and participation in shooting sports programs among youth, Brownells & the National Rifle Association’s Youth Programs Department select a single representative from several National and International youth programs to serve as Ambassadors representing their organization to the shooting sports industry.

We are proud to announce that our 2013 NSSP National Representative and Brownells/NRA Youth Shooting Sports Ambassador is Cris Herrera from Lafayette, Louisiana.

Following an application process and interviews, Cris was selected to represent Royal Rangers as the 2013 Brownells/NRA Ambassador representing the Royal Rangers National Shooting Sports Program (NSSP), and will begin his Ambassador term in January.

At 17 years of age, Cris is an accomplished, respected, and decorated Royal Ranger. Actively involved in recreational and competitive shooting sports ranging from BB Gun, Air Rifle, Archery, and .22 Small Bore, Cris has placed and medaled at a number of Royal Ranger, FCF, NRA Postal, and JROTC shooting events and competitions.  His current NSSP passion is muzzle loading.

Cris enjoys the National honor of earning his Gold Medal of Achievement, and has further distinguished himself by leading the Expedition Rangers as a Junior Commander at Outpost 4, at Lafayette First Assembly of God, Youngsville, LA. Cris has received the Junior Service Medal, and is the Assistant FCF Scout for Louisiana.

In addition to Royal Rangers, Cris plays football, is active in his youth group, takes part in tornado relief efforts, and works three days a week with Food Net, an organization run by Lafayette First Assembly that reaches out to needy families in the community with food and other essential needs.  Cris also works with Trinity Outdoors, a ministry that takes handicapped persons hunting and camping.

As an NRA member and avid outdoorsman, Cris takes advantage of anything outdoors that Louisiana has to offer.  Hailed as the “Sportsman’s Paradise” Louisiana has afforded more than just camping, shooting, hunting, and fishing adventure… you may spot Cris on an airboat looking for alligators, working on his archery skills on the church’s open land, or simply fly fishing at a new hot spot.  Wherever Cris is, you can be sure adventure is close at hand.

During the 2013 Ambassador term, Cris will attend SHOT Show (the largest and most prestigious convention/show of the shooting sports industry) for the better part of a week. In addition to radio, television, and other media relations during the SHOT Show, Cris will attend the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits and a series of exciting shooting events, meet and work with celebrities of the sport, and much more throughout the year.

Cris, like all Ambassadors, will receive special recognition from the National Royal Ranger Office; all-expense paid Ambassadorship, and will be presented with a $2,000 check towards college by the President of the NRA – generously provided by BROWNELLS.

When asked to describe his thoughts on becoming the 2013 Ambassador for Royal Rangers, Cris stated that he will represent Royal Rangers with “integrity and enthusiasm” as he experiences this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that is the Ambassador Program.

  • Would you, or someone you know like to have Cris come to your next camp or NSSP event as the National Shooting Sports Representative?
  • Do you have a guided fishing, hunting or other “adventure” opportunity that you would like host with Cris to make his Ambassador year unforgettable?
  • Do you, so someone you know have a business that would benefit from hosting Cris as a special speaker, guest, or example of what Royal Rangers can accomplish in the lives of young men?
