It is hard to believe that we only have 263 days until the start of Camporama. Other ways to calculate it are 8 months and 19 days or 37 weeks and 4 days. Regardless of how you mark it off on your calendar, each day we get closer to the “Ultimate Event for Guys.”
I still remember my first Camporama. Our outpost coordinator included excursions on the way there and on the way back. While all the Camporamas I have attended have been incredible, part of that incredibleness was the excursions we made during our trip. It broke up the monotony of hours of riding in a van and gave us something a little extra to look forward to.
Remember, for some boys this will be the only Camporama they attend. Whether you are traveling cross country or simply hopping a state line, include some excursions along the way. My outpost’s trips to Camp Eagle Rock included stops, such as the St. Louis Arch and the granddaddy of all sporting goods stores, Bass Pro Shops, in Springfield. Not all excursions have to cost a lot or even anything, but make sure you budget those visits into your overall event cost.
What if I’m not familiar with the areas we are driving through? This is a prime example of putting the power of the Internet to work for you. You can search “points of interest” near the cities you will be driving through or even the whole state. For example, I typed in “points of interest in Kentucky” the first four locations were Mammoth Cave National Park, Red River Gorge Geological Area, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, and Daniel Boone National Forest. It can be just that simple.
Depending on where you are traveling from, maybe national parks or monuments like Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, or the Smokie Mountains are locations your outpost could visit. Maybe attractions closer to Eagle Rock, MO, such as Merrimack Caverns, Lambert’s “home of the throwed roll,” Wonders of Wildlife, or the myriad of things to do in Branson, MO would be ideas the outpost could research. Speaking of Branson, keep checking the Camporama website after the first of the year for special pricing to Silver Dollar City.
We’ve talked about excursions, but what are things to do while the boys are riding for what seems like endless in a vehicle?
I can’t say this enough, but for many of our boys, Camporama is a once-in-a-lifetime event. The national office is daily working to make this event the best one yet. Register today and plan to live the adventure at Camp Eagle Rock next July with thousands of your closest friends.
See you there!
