During my years teaching at a day care/preschool and teaching elementary Sunday school classes, I found that boys liked to create craft projects just as much as the girls. In fall and winter months, many parts of the country have many nights that they are not able to go outside for activities due to inclement weather or the sun setting earlier. Below are several craft ideas for your Ranger Kids and Discovery Rangers groups.
Spring Crafts
RANGER KIDS
I tried to select craft projects that K-2nd graders could complete with little supervision. If you are the only leader with several boys, you will need crafts that boys can work on with some independence, allowing you to focus on the younger boys in the class.
3D Lady Bug
There are not many supplies needed to make this lady bug with your Ranger Kids. You may need to do the precutting of the read and body components so the project can be put together within a short timeframe.

Paper Plate Caterpillars
The is a great craft that can be simple or intricate. The basic supplies of paper plates, markers, glue sticks, and pipe cleaners will let your Ranger Kids make caterpillars that are as unique as them. The link lists optional items if you want the boys to get really creative.

DISCOVERY RANGERS
I tried to select craft projects that 3rd-5th graders could complete with little supervision. If you are the only leader with several boys, you will need crafts that boys can work on with some independence, allowing you to focus on the boys who may need extra help.
Stained Glass (tissue paper)
Using tissue paper, wax paper, and white glue to create a stained-glass project may be intriguing for Discovery Rangers. The best thing about this project is that every project is meant to be unique. I cut a section of wax paper and have the boys fold it in half. They tear pieces of tissue paper in any size to glue to one side of the wax paper. Once that side is complete, they put glue over the tissue paper and press the second side onto the glue. This makes the tissue paper between the wax paper. It will have to dry for a few days before it can be hung in the window to see the light shine through the different colors. You can consider putting a border around it with construction paper or cardstock. Be sure to keep an eye on the glue; some boys will try to use too much. The link below takes a similar concept but provides a cross template.

Cotton Ball Clouds
This would be a great craft for the Weather merit. The boys use cotton balls, white glue, and a little gray paint to learn the different type of clouds and the weather they bring. See the link for a full list of supplies and a free printable of cloud names.

Mother’s Day Craft Ideas
Please be sensitive to the boys in class who may not have a mom. Every boy will have a special woman in his life.

Tissue Paper Tulip
Use green plus any other color of tissue paper, scissors, and glue to create this easy tulip. You will need to draw a tulip shape on card stock or construction paper. You can also use this free tulip patter that can be photocopied onto the card stock or construction paper.

DISCOVERY RANGERS
Cupcake Liner Flower Card
Using cupcake liners, glue, buttons, markers, and cardstock, your class can make these adorable Mother’s Day cards. The link to the directions below states that you need to use a stamp and ink pad to stamp “Happy Mother’s Day” on the card. To save some cost, have the boys write it on the outside or inside of the card along with their own message.

Father’s Day Craft Ideas
Please be sensitive to the boys in class who may not have a dad. Every boy will have a special man in his life.

Tackle Box or Toolbox
This project can be for any age boy and can be as simple or elobarte as you decide. The link below shows a small tackle box with only Swedish fish in each section. Last year, our office received similar tackle boxes from an outpost in North Texas, but they included various candies (Hershey® kisses or hugs or gummy bears or worms), nails, screws, fishing flies, etc. You need to pick the theme of the box and purchase items accordingly. Remember these boxes are quite small, so you don’t need much to fill it up. Remember to design and print a tag on cardstock for the box.
