April 2025
During my years teaching at a day care/preschool and teaching elementary Sunday school classes, I found that boys liked to create craft projects just as much as the girls. In spring months, there are nights where you aren’t able to go outside for activities due to inclement weather. Below are several craft ideas for your Ranger Kids and Discovery Rangers groups.
RANGER KIDS
I tried to select craft projects that K-2nd graders could complete with little supervision. If you are the only leader with several boys, you will need crafts that boys can work on with some independence, allowing you to focus on the younger boys in the class.
Handprint Lilies
Lilies come in all colors, so you can choose any color construction paper with green and yellow pipe cleaners. You’ll also need pencils, tape, ribbon, and scissors to make a great bouquet of flowers for mom.

Easter Egg Maracas
I think the boys will love to make this festive maracas, but I’m not sure how much the parents will enjoy them. There are only a few supplies you’ll need for it: plastic eggs, plastic spoons, Washi or colored Duct tape, and popcorn or rice. Fill and close the eggs. Place a spoon on either side of the egg and tape them. You can cover the entire egg with the decorative tape if you choose. Finally, the boys are ready to make some noise with their maracas.

Clothespin Easter Eggs
With the size of these pieces, you will need to precut the pieces. Most Ranger Kids won’t have the fine motor skills to cut these small pieces. You’ll need glitter craft foam, wooden clothespins, cardstock (yellow), crafter’s tape, scissors, craft foam or cardboard, and gel pens (black and orange). If all the pieces are precut, the boys only need to draw the face on the chick and assemble the egg. The site below has great steps to follow with photos of each step.

Wooden Spoon Bunnies and Chicks
I just couldn’t help but include this one. They are so cute. You’ll need wooden spoons, acrylic paint (pastels for spring), fine tip pens (black), googly eyes, pipe cleaners, craft foam, pom poms ribbon, and craft feathers. Don’t forget the paint shirts so the boys don’t get paint on their clothes. You can paint the spoons one week and finish the bunnies and chicks the following week. If you can’t spend two weeks on this project, then you may want to paint all the spoons before class. The website below has great step-by-step instructions with photos.

DISCOVERY RANGERS
I tried to select craft projects that 3rd-5th graders could complete with little supervision. If you are the only leader with several boys, you will need crafts that boys can work on with some independence, allowing you to focus on the boys who may need extra help.
3D Paper Eggs and Carrots
I think the boys will enjoys making these 3D eggs, and they can use the same technique to make 3D carrots. You’ll need patterned or colored scrapbook paper (orange for carrots), scissors, double-sided tape or crafter’s tape, twine or string, and beads (optional). Because I’m not much of an artist, I found an egg template you can print on the scrapbook paper you choose. As the boys cut out their eggs, fold them in half, and tape them together, they will create unique 3D eggs. They will need four paper eggs to make the 3D egg.

Cupcake Liner Flowers
The boys can create unique flowers to take home. You’ll need regular and mini cupcake liners (various colors), craft sticks (green), green markers (optional), doubled-sided tape or crafter’s tape, rhinestone stickers (yellow), construction paper (green), and scissors. The website has great step-by-step instructions with photos. If you can’t find green craft sticks, you can let the boys color them with green markers. Because these are so easy to make, the boys could make an entire bouquet.

Cupcake Liner Butterflies
Using cupcake liners, wooden clothespins or craft sticks, pom poms, pipe cleaners, wiggle eyes, tacky glue, watercolor paint, and paintbrushes, Discovery Rangers will be able to make some amazing butterflies. You can even glue magnet strips to the back to create a spring keepsake.

Paper Hyacinths
This could be a projects the boys can work on for several weeks. Most churches may already have most of these supplies: cardstock (various colors), construction paper (green), scissors, rulers, pencils, glue sticks, and knitting needles or wooden skewers (optional). I really needed the photos on this one to help me understand how to cut the paper correctly to make the curls for the flowers. If you have boys that don’t like to do the fine details work of curling each flower petal, then try the Handprint Lilies in the Rangers Kids section.

RANGER KIDS & DISCOVERY RANGERS
These are great snack and coloring page ideas for Ranger Kids and Discovery Rangers. These might work well for a party.
Snack Idea: Bird Nests 1
If you want to make a special snack for Easter, this is simple. You’ll need white baking chips, pretzels, yellow Peeps, egg-shaped candy, waxed paper, forks, and microwave-safe bowls. This food craft is easy. Once the baking chips are melted, reserve about half a cup. Coat the pretzels in the remaining mixture and drop mounds of pretzels on waxed paper. Using the forks shape them into nests. Dip the Peeps and egg-shaped candy in the reserved mixture and place in the nests. They can eat them once the candy coating has cooled.

Snack Idea: Bird Nests 2
If you want to make a special snack for Easter, this is simple. You’ll need shredded wheat or shredded coconut, chocolate chips, egg-shaped candy or jellybeans, spatula, rolling pin, plastic gallon bag, muffin tin, muffin liners, and microwave-safe bowls. This food craft is easy. Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and regularly scrape the sides. Place the shredded wheat in the gallon bag and crush it with the rolling pin and then pour it into the chocolate, stirring until all the shredded wheat is coated. Spoon the chocolate shredded wheat into the lined muffin tin and make a dent in the center of each. Finally, place the egg-shaped candy in the nests. They can eat them once the chocolate has cooled.

Snack Idea: Peeps Skillet S’mores
You could make this ahead or with the boys. You’ll need heavy cream, semisweet chocolate chips, Peeps, and graham crackers. You’ll also need a microwave-safe bowl, small saucepan, spatula, and oven-safe dish. You’ll melt the chocolate in the cream in a microwave-safe bowl or make a double boiler using the small saucepan. Pour the melted chocolate in the oven-safe dish and arrange the Peeps on top. Bake in a 450 oven for 5–10 minutes. Scoop it out with the graham crackers. The boys will love it.
