Action Camps Provide Opportunity for Adventure

 Boy Hiking

Outdoor adventures have long been a central aspect of Royal Rangers. From campouts and float trips to backyard BBQs and afternoon hikes, shared outdoor experiences bring men and boys together around fun activities that build relationships and provide a foundation for ministry.

Action camps play an important role in equipping outpost leaders to conduct confidently activities they may otherwise be unfamiliar with. Action camps are district-level events that provide leaders and older boys with specialized instruction in a specific type of “high adventure” activity, such as backpacking, canoeing, wilderness survival, or winter camping. The knowledge learned at these camps can then be taken back to the outpost where similar activities may be conducted with your boys.

Action camps also provide a great way to invite men and boys from churches in your district who may not have a Royal Rangers program but are interested in the types of activities we provide. Participation in these camps could be a great help to them in providing some form of ministry to the boys in their churches as a community of men.

Full training materials for four of these action camps are now available for download from the district staff resources section of the national website. This material includes staff guidebooks, participant notebooks, camp schedules, and artwork. These camps currently include the following:

  • Backpacking Action Camp (BAC)
  • Canoeing Action Camp (CAC)
  • Outdoor Skills Action Camp (OSAC)
  • Shooting Sports Action Camp (SSAC)

Materials for these additional action camps are still in development:

  • Survival Action Camp (SAC)
  • Winter Survival Action Camp (WSAC)
  • Aquatics Action Camp (AAC)
